Bombings in Boston inspire international response
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The tragic bombings in Boston are making many of us question just how safe we are.
Major cities around the country and world are on high alert. Las Vegas is no exception. Although Las Vegas police won't go into detail about specific protective measures, they do insist Las Vegas is prepared.
But, the focus isn't just on safety. It's also on how we can help.
The Red Cross sent more than 100 blood donations to several hospitals in Boston, to help meet patient needs. And volunteers are on standby.
People are also coming together via social media. Boston residents, marathon runners, news outlets, and emergency-response groups used websites like Facebook and Twitter to provide instant updates.
Being able to use smartphones and social media shaped the national response and created an online community of support.
People were able to confirm the safety of their loved ones through instant digital messages. It's amazing to think that just a few years ago, we didn't have that capability.
