One person killed in crash at Pecos and Russell
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas police were called to the scene of a fatal crash near the intersection of South Pecos and East Russell Roads.
It happened just after 8 a.m. Friday morning.
Las Vegas police said a 2002 Nissan Maxima was observed committing multiple traffic violations in the area of Sandhill Road and Rawhide Street. A Metro officer attempted to catch up to the Nissan to make a traffic stop.
The Nissan turned onto Russell, crossed over the center line and traveled west in the eastbound lanes.
The Nissan entered the intersection at Pecos Road against a red traffic signal. A 2008 Cadillac was stopped at a red traffic signal and was struck by the Nissan.
The Nissan traveled off the road and struck a large utility pole.
The driver of the Nissan, a 46-year-old from Las Vegas, was transported to Sunrise Trauma Center. The person was pronounced dead by medical personnel at the hospital.
The driver of the Cadillac had minor injuries and remained at the scene.
This was the 39th traffic related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction in 2013.
During the investigation, a driver suspected of being under the influence or impaired drove through the scene. That person was arrested and transported to the Clark County Detention Center.
