Sources say former UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian headed to Hall of Fame
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- According to CBSSports.com, former University of Nevada, Las Vegas coach Jerry Tarkanian is headed to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Tarkanian, also known as "Tark the Shark," is considered one of the most successful coaches in college basketball history. He is also known for his often colorful behavior during games and clashes with the NCAA.
Tarkanian coached at Long Beach State from 1968 to 1973. After that, he became the head coach for the Runnin' Rebels at UNLV from 1973 to 1992.
He took UNLV to four Final Fours, three of which were losses. In 1990, UNLV beat Duke 103-73. Tarkanian finished his career with a 784-202 record and was 307-42 in 10 seasons at UNLV.
Tarkanian, age 82, is married to Las Vegas city councilwoman Lois Tarkanian. They have four children and ten grandchildren.
