Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The brother of a teen police say crashed into a busy restaurant on Monday is coming to his defense.
18-year-old Gage Lindsey is accused of veering off Sahara Avenue into The Egg & I during the busy lunch hour.
Action News spoke with Gage's brother, Austin.
"He's a hardworking person, very caring," said Austin. "He's a good driver. This was by mistake. Everyone is against him. But that's not how it should be."
Lindsey told police he blacked out after taking an unsubscribed pill.
"I heard from a friend he was with that he passed out behind the wheel and landed on the wheel and jerked into the restaurant," said Austin.
According to his arrest report, Gage Lindsey cut across the road into oncoming traffic and crashed into the restaurant, pinning injuring ten people.
Some of those victims remain hospitalized.
"I feel really bad for the families who have to go through that," Austin said. "He does deserve to pay for what he did, but I don't think he should get life."
Austin shared a picture of his family in happier times. But last year, their father died of a heart attack in their living room.
"That made the family fall apart," Austin said. "This is going to be it for us."
Gage Lindsey faces charges for hit-and-run, driving under the influence and reckless driving.
