Charges filed against troubled ex-Nevada lawmaker
BARSTOW, Calif. (AP) -- California prosecutors have filed charges against a former Nevada lawmaker who police say led them on a freeway chase that ended with a violent struggle.
The Barstow Desert Dispatch reports San Bernardino County prosecutors filed the charges Tuesday against Steven Brooks. The 41-year-old faces several counts including resisting a peace officer with force, felony evading and assault on a police animal.
Brooks is scheduled to be arraigned later Tuesday.
Police say Brooks was arrested Thursday after he attacked a police dog with a wrench and had a struggle with officers.
Last week, he became the first person in Nevada history to be voted out of office by his colleagues in the Legislature after they cited concerns for their safety and a bizarre series of public incidents.
