Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Former Nevada state assemblyman Steven Brooks appeared before a judge in California on Tuesday.
Brooks pleaded not guilty to felony charges and asked a judge for reduced bail so he can seek psychiatric help.
Brooks was not physically in court. His hearing took place via teleconference. He is currently jailed in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
His next hearing was set for April 9. In the meantime, Brooks will get a public defender.
His arrest came after an argument with a tow truck driver and a high-speed chase involving several law enforcement agencies.
It was his third arrest since January.
