(KTNV) -- A new proposal called "School Shield" is set to be announced today by the National Rifle Association.
The NRA says the best way to prevent school shootings like the one that happened at Sandy Hook Elementary is to have armed guards protecting students.
This is the same thing that was proposed in December with the NRA met with Vice President Joe Biden.
But, the White House is not very receptive and is pushing for tighter controls and bans instead.
Support for that though seems to be fading. Even Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada dropped the ban from the bill that he is pushing through Capitol Hill.
Another idea is to let teachers in schools be armed. Several states, including Nevada, have proposals currently up for debate.
