Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Not only is April 1 April Fools' Day but it is also April Pools Day in Clark County.
April Pools Day is an annual event to promote awareness of the dangers of drowning.
The event is sponsored by the Southern Nevada Child Drowning Prevention Coalition and was held this year at the Silver Mesa Recreation Center on Allen Lane in North Las Vegas.
Clark County and Southern Nevada's cities take turns each year hosting the event.
Partners of the drowning coalition include the cities of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson and Boulder City fire departments, Clark County's Building and Parks and Recreation departments, pool builders and supply companies, Safe Kids Coalition, Southern Nevada Health District, American Red Cross and others.
According to the SNCDPC, most drowning victims are 4 years or younger and the majority of drowning deaths happen in family pools.
In 2012, the health district reported 54 submersion incidents. Seven of those were fatal. So far, there have been three non-fatal incidents in 2013.
