Weekend bomb hoax disrupts traffic in Stateline
STATELINE, Nev. (AP) -- Douglas County deputies say they arrested a 29-year-old man over the weekend who told them he had a bomb in his car.
Deputies say the scare happened during a traffic stop about 11 p.m. Saturday in Stateline, Nev.
Officials who were arresting Minden resident Adam Smith on suspicion of driving under the influence say they noticed a wire running from the front seat of the Dodge to the trunk.
When Smith was asked about the wire, he told them it was a bomb.
Officials from the FBI, the Nevada Highway Patrol, the fire department, the bomb squad, and the Nevada Department of Transportation were called to the scene. Traffic was diverted for several hours while authorities investigated.
By 4 a.m. Sunday, they determined the claim was a hoax.
