Man accused of DUI resulting in Mesquite fatal due in court
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A horrible crash over the weekend claimed the lives of five family members from California who were traveling on Interstate 15 Near Mesquite.
The man that authorities say is responsible for that crash will be making an initial court appearance today.
18-year-old Jean Soriano is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center without bail for the crash that happened very early Saturday morning.
Authorities arrested him for driving under the influence after he rear ended a van carrying seven family members about 80 miles north of Las Vegas.
At approximately 3 a.m. on Saturday, Nevada Highway Patrol says that Soriano was driving his Durango south on the I-15 when he struck a van filled with people.
Both vehicles overturned and five people were ejected from the van.
The Clark County coroner's office released the names of the victims on Sunday. Three were brothers in their 40s, one was a woman also in her 40s, and a 13-year-old girl.
All the passengers were from Southern California.
Soriano was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, failure to decrease speed or use due care and driving without a driver's license.
There are no charges yet related to the deaths.
Authorities say that none of those that were killed were wearing a seat belt.
