Five killed in I-15 crash near Mesquite, teen arrested for DUI
Mesquite, NV (KTNV) -- The Nevada Highway Patrol was called to an early morning fatal crash, just south of Mesquite on Saturday.
It happened on Interstate 15 southbound around 3 a.m.
Officers said a Dodge Durango rear-ended a Chevrolet van.
The Chevrolet overturned and continued traveling off the road. As the vehicle overturned, five of the seven occupants were ejected.
The Dodge also traveled off the side of the road where it overturned onto its roof.
In the Chevrolet, a 15-year-old male passenger, who was ejected, and the 40-year-old female driver were transported to UMC in critical condition. Three males in their 40s, an unknown-age female adult and a teenage female were all killed. They were all from California.
The 18-year-old male driver and 23-year-old female passenger in the Dodge, both from California, were transported to UMC with non-life threatening injuries.
The 18-year-old driver of the Dodge, Jean Soriano, was treated and released from UMC. He was then taken into custody, booked into the Clark County Detention Center and charged with driving under the influence.
Officers said numerous occupants were not wearing their seat belts.
The road was closed for several hours while crews investigated, but the area has since reopened.
