Coroner IDs man dead after wrong-way crash in Nev.
HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) -- Authorities have identified a wrong-way driver from California who died on a Las Vegas-area freeway after failed efforts to get him to stop.
Clark County coroner's officials say 30-year-old Riverside, Calif. resident Jose Edward Gonzalez was killed in the crash about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. It happened on U.S. 95 near Auto Show Drive in Henderson.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremie Elliott says witnesses saw a black Fiat with California license plates driving north in the southbound lanes for several miles, and troopers tried to get the driver's attention before the crash.
The Fiat driver died when the car hit a blue Mazda with Colorado license plates.
The male driver of the Mazda was taken to University Medical Center in Las Vegas in critical condition.
