Sparks dad accused in infant son's abuse death
SPARKS, Nev. (AP) -- Authorities have arrested a Sparks man accused of injuring his 5-month-old son so badly that the baby died.
Sparks police say 35-year-old Roberto Diaz-Tenorio remains in the Washoe County jail on an open murder charge.
Officials say they responded to an apartment on El Rancho Boulevard Thursday night after a report that a baby had stopped breathing.
Police say family members had already started rescue efforts when first responders arrived, and the baby was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center for treatment. Doctors say they found the boy had fractured ribs and brain hemorrhaging, and he died on Saturday.
Investigators say the baby went unconscious after Diaz-Tenorio changed the child's diaper.
Police say it appears the father caused the boy's injuries.
