Brooks' attorney: Panel's recommendation 'disappointing'
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- The attorney for embattled North Las Vegas Assemblyman Steven Brooks says the vote by a special panel recommending Brooks be expelled from the Legislature was "disappointing, of course."
Mitchell Posin added, "I hope when the Assembly meets to consider this, they see another side of this as Ms. Neal did."
The bipartisan committee voted 6-1 Tuesday to recommend Brooks' expulsion. Democratic Assemblywoman Dina Neal of North Las Vegas dissented.
Expulsion still requires a two-thirds majority -- or 28 votes -- in the Assembly. Majority Leader William Horne gave no indication when the full chamber might take up the matter.
Brooks did not attend Tuesday's hearing.
If the recommendation is upheld, the Clark County Commission would select a replacement for Brooks, who won re-election by a 2-to-1 margin in November over an unknown challenger.
