Las Vegas fire investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that destroyed a house in one of the older downtown neighborhoods, Park Place.
Because of the intensity of the fire and the hot and humid weather conditions, an extra alarm was dispatched to help firefighters already on scene. There were no reported injuries during the incident.
Fire dispatchers received multiple calls at 12:15 p.m. on Monday that a house at 1115 5th Place was on fire.
When firefighters arrived on scene, thick smoke and some flames were coming from the one story wood frame house with a full attic and basement. The fire quickly intensified causing firefighters from making an interior attack and fighting the fire from the outside. It took firefighters nearly an hour to bring the fire under control.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The house has been vacant for several years. Neighbors said homeless people have been going in and out of the house on a routine basis.
The house was built in 1931 according to City of Las Vegas records.
The fire destroyed the house. Damage was estimated at $150,000.
