Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A man is being charged with arson after he started a fire in a one-bedroom apartment at the Siegel Suites Paradise apartments on Paradise Road, near East St. Louis Avenue.
Las Vegas police began receiving calls Friday morning shortly after 5 a.m. that someone on the third floor was breaking windows and was throwing things out.
When police arrived, smoke could be seen coming from one of the apartments.
Fire personnel were notified at 5:22 a.m.
When firefighters arrived, they discovered a fire that started on the stove had been extinguished by fire sprinklers.
The apartment building was evacuated as a precaution.
Upon further investigation, it was determined that clothes had been placed on the stove and then turned on by the occupant of the apartment.
The man was taken into custody by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and transported to the hospital for observation. He will be charged with one count of arson in the first degree.
Damage is estimated at $500. Two apartments directly below on the first and second floors had minor water damage from the sprinklers.
There were no other injuries reported.
