UNLV suffers 64-61 loss in NCAA Tournament
San Jose, Calif. (KTNV) -- The University of Nevada, Las Vegas' Runnin' Rebels lost to the Cal Bears in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday.
The final score at the HP Pavilion in San Jose was 64-61.
UNLV entered the game as a five seed, with sports books favoring the Rebels to win by 3.5 points. Instead, the 12-seed Cal Bears dominated the majority of the second half.
The teams started out even footed, and entered halftime tied at 28 points.
Rebels Head Coach Dave Rice said before the game it would be a challenge to play the Bears so close to their home court.
"We understand the challenge of playing against a terrific team like Cal, 40 or 50 minutes from their campus," said Coach Rice.
It was an all-too-familiar feeling for the Runnin' Rebels, who also lost their first game of the NCAA tournament last season.
The team will head back to Las Vegas now with hopes to make another bid for it next season.
