Bill would ban former lawmakers from lobbying
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- A legislative panel seemed receptive to a bill to ban former lawmakers from lobbying at the Legislature.
The Assembly Committee on Legislative Operations and Elections heard AB77, sponsored by Assembly Minority Leader Pat Hickey of Reno.
The bill would prohibit lawmakers who leave office for whatever reason from returning as paid lobbyists until one legislative session has been held.
Hickey says the goal is to slow the revolving door between politics and influence peddling.
Some members of the committee suggested the bill doesn't go far enough and questioned why it doesn't extend to local governments and elected officials as well.
But Hickey says he hopes to keep the bill simple enough for it to pass.
No action was taken by the committee Tuesday.
