NASCAR Weekend kicks off with hauler parade down the Las Vegas Strip
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- NASCAR fans lined the sidewalks of the Las Vegas Strip Wednesday night to cheer the big rigs hauling race cars to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The hauler parade is the official kick off event to NASCAR Weekend.
Dan Kujawski of California summed it up for all when he said, "This is going to be awesome."
Once the haulers passed by, for many it was time to go shopping, dining and engage in other non-race activities.
That's a good thing, because NASCAR fans are willing to spend.
Tourism officials say they left about $240 million dollars in non-gaming revenue last year.
When asked about safety concerns in the wake of the crash in Daytona that left more than two dozen fans injured one NASCAR fan said, "No. That was just a freak accident."
Another fan, Sean Clinton said, "It's very, very rare, so it's kind of an anomaly when it does happen."
In fact, Clinton said he feels so safe, that he's taking his Matthew to his first NASCAR race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for his birthday.
Matthew said he's grateful but added, "Just sucks that I'm only 15."
