DA: Nevada lawmaker facing felony in domestic case

CREATED Mar. 4, 2013

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- The district attorney in Las Vegas says a troubled Nevada state lawmaker will face one felony and three lesser charges stemming from a scuffle with police during a domestic argument call at his wife's home.

Democratic Assemblyman Steven Brooks hung up on an Associated Press reporter seeking comment about Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson's announcement Monday that Brooks faces a resisting an officer with a weapon charge that could get him up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Brooks' lawyer, Mitchell Posin, says Brooks' Feb. 10 arrest has been blown out of proportion and he'll fight the charges.

Police alleged that Brooks threw punches and grabbed at an officer's gun after Brooks' wife called 911 from a neighbor's house to report a domestic disturbance.
