Man accused of killing boyfriend with a hammer, candle holder
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A Las Vegas man is accused of killing his lover with a hammer and a candle holder earlier this month.
Police arrested 36-year-old Alexander Allen this week after discovering a body in an apartment on Indian River Drive, near South Decatur Boulevard and West Avenue.
A Las Vegas constable was called to the apartment to serve an eviction on Feb. 8. When he discovered a locked bedroom, he asked a maintenance man to help him open it.
That's when police say Allen fled the apartment.
After the bedroom was opened, the constable made sure the window was secure but didn't see anything suspicious. He changed the locks and called animal control to take a dog that was inside the apartment.
Later that day, the animal control officer and maintenance worker discovered a large bundle on the bedroom floor with a body inside. That's when they alerted police.
Police said the body was bound with computer cables and wrapped in several layers of material. They also discovered a bloody hammer wrapped in a towel and plastic bags on the bathroom vanity.
In addition, detectives discovered a broken metal candle holder stained with blood.
The next day, the coroner's office identified the dead man as Conrad Barrios. He died of strangulation and blunt-force injuries.
Detectives said Barrios and Allen were in a dating relationship and had been living together since January.
Allen was located and arrested on Monday. He was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on murder charges.
