Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Online retail giant Zappos.com has some interesting plans for its new headquarters set to open later this year.
The more than 40-year-old former Las Vegas City Hall building is almost unrecognizable on the inside.
2,000 Zappos employees will be working in their new headquarters by October. And true to Zappos style, they'll be doing things a little differently to increase employee interaction.
"We're doing a lot of creative things to move employees between the floors," said Patrick Olson, campus development manager for Zappos.
They're even going as far as closing off the sky bridge entrance from the parking garage, so all employees enter through the same area.
"Just because you don't sit next to them doesn't mean you shouldn't see them throughout the day," said Olson.
The construction team is working toward LEED certification by using sustainable materials. They're also adding 100 bike parking spaces and electric car-charging stations.
Among all of the renovations and construction, one room sits untouched: the old Las Vegas City Council Chambers, which will remain in its original state. Zappos likes the idea of keeping history a part of the structure.
A building on the northwest side of the property was the old city library constructed 60 years ago. It will now serve as the Zappos bistro.
A bar will will go in place of the old city jail.
"There will be a clean separation, but yeah we encourage our employees to go grab a drink after work, just right around the corner in the same complex," Olson said.
The speakeasy-style lounge will be open to the public as well.
Zappos officials say construction is currently moving along on schedule and on budget.
