Nevada Assembly Democrats oust Brooks from caucus
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- Assembly Democrats late Wednesday expelled embattled Assemblyman Steven Brooks from the party's caucus, the latest development following allegations last month that the North Las Vegas lawmaker threatened the Assembly's speaker.
The move by Assembly Democrats serves as a rebuke to Brooks, who was recently hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation. The Assembly on Thursday is expected to name a select committee to investigate him and recommend whether expulsion or some other action should be taken.
No member of the Nevada Assembly has ever been expelled.
Brooks has been under scrutiny since his Jan. 19 arrest over threats he is accused of making against Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick.
According to police reports, he had a gun in his car and dozens of rounds of ammunition.
