Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Clark County is one step closer to cutting its trash pickup service and increasing its recycling program to one day a week.
Many Republic Service employees aren't happy about the move. They spoke out against the plan at a commission meeting held on Tuesday.
Right now, Republic Services picks up trash twice a week, and picks up recycling every other week. Under the new plan, trash pick up would drop to one day a week, but recycling would go up to one day a week.
The commission approved the new trash pick up plan with some conditions.
Trash collectors at the meeting urged commissioners not to move forward with the plan. They fear their hours will be cut and they won't be eligible to receive benefits.
Republic Services still needs to provide the county with an audit, economic analysis and a survey before the plan is revisited and gets final approval.
Right now, there is no set time frame for when the new trash pick up plan will go into place.
