Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The final numbers aren't in, but it looks like the handle for this year's game might be a record.
Action News reporter spoke to a couple of local bookmakers this morning and they say that the game was a winner for them although they did not make a huge profit.
But coming out ahead is good news considering that for most of the NFL season, the bettors were the ones making the money.
Johnny Avello, director of Race and Sports Operations at Wynn Las Vegas, says that might be the reason that so much money was put on this year's Super Bowl game. People had money in their pockets from the regular season and decided to go for one more win.
Many bettors made money on prop bets, including the safety that came late in the game.
"Last year, it happened on the first play of the game, and this year it happened on the last play of the game," Avello said. "...That's a big payout for the players."
Avello said prop bets have become more popular, accounting for about 20 percent of the action at the Wynn sports book. Other book makers say it's up to more like 40 or 50 percent of the betting.
