Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The home where a family fight turned deadly is an eerie sight for neighbors.
"It was shocking. I'm still in shock," neighbor Josie Montgomery said.
The windows are boarded up and flowers lay in memory of the people who died here.
Police said 54-year-old, James McCarty shot and killed his family members. Neighbors identified them as McCarty's wife and two adult children.
The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the adult children as 38-year-old Bonnie Scherrer and 41-year-old Robert Scherrer. Both died of gunshot wounds to the head.
"My heart goes out to him," Montgomery said. "I just don't understand why people can't walk away, but I'm not in the position."
Neighbors said the family had fallen on hard times. McCarty had cancer and the mother identified as Linda McCarty had a stroke. The couples daughter Bonnie and son Bobby took care of their mom.
"I think maybe the money situation wasn't going so good," neighbor Joey Hiendlymayr said. "I know the dad was the only one who worked."
Neighbors said the stress may have been too much and after shooting his family, McCarty turned the gun on himself.
Investigators found blood on the back patio and bullet holes in the windows. One bullet bounced off neighbor, Andrew Newkirk's house.
"A bullet hole came out of that window and hit our house over here," Newkirk explained.
Neighbors said it's a sad situation happening too close to home. Now they're wondering why someone would hurt their own family.
McCarty is in critical condition, but police said they'll arrest him on three counts of murder.
Neighbors said he's the step-father to the kids, but he raised them as children.
