Fundraiser held to keep North Las Vegas boxing gym open
North Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Richard Steele Boxing Gym has been home to hundreds of local fighters throughout the years.
But now, the gym is in danger of closing its doors for good. A fundraiser was held Saturday to help save the gym and generate some donations.
Legendary boxing referee Richard Steele is used to fights, but this battle may be his most important one yet. His health and wellness center, which has been a second home to hundreds of at-risk Valley teens, may be knocked out if they don't get some funding to survive.
The gym that offers so much more than boxing, the wellness center brings in Metro officers to teach anti-bullying events. They offer life skills programs, tutoring and STD counseling.
The gym is no stranger to these types of fundraisers. In fact, when people in the community have needed help, Steele often hosts events for them to help raise money.
He hopes now the community returns the favor.
