Father and son escape house fire in southwest Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A father and son are without a place to live after a fire late Tuesday night.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 11:35 p.m. in the 6400 block of Ponderosa Way, near West Patrick Lane and South Torrey Pines Drive.

It took fire crews about two hours to get the fire under control because of the size of the house and because fire hydrants were located about 1,000 feet away.

In addition, water supply issues were further complicated when a private vehicle ran over a hose causing it to burst.

The fire was brought under control at 1:05 a.m.

According to initial reports, the fire started in the garage and then spread to the attic. Most of the home was heavily damaged.

A total of 16 units and 48 fire personnel from the Clark County Fire Department and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue responded to the two-alarm blaze.

Both men were able to escape the 4,800-square-foot custom-built home but the father received minor burns and was treated at the scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The damage is estimated at $750,000.

Action News will update this story when new information is received.
