Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The International Consumer Electronic Show, better known as CES, opens at the Las Vegas Convention Center Tuesday. But the action is already getting started.
Techies are taking over the Strip for what's considered the Super Bowl of the gadget world, where the latest and greatest will be revealed.
The event, "CES Unveiled," was held Sunday. Industry movers and shakers, as well as eager reporters, poured into a ballroom at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. It was standing-room only as they got a first look at some of the newest products.
But, it wasn't just big-name companies showing off their inventions. Troy Evans, a Las Vegas local, introduced his social-media creation, www.listsanity.com, at the "Start-up Debut" held at Bali Hai Country Club.
The start-up event offers a chance for lesser-known innovators to be front and center. Many of them are hoping their ideas become the next big thing.
Liquipel found success after the "Start-up Debut" last year. The company came up with nano technology to make cell phones completely water resistant.
"They ended up on the cover of Popular Mechanics," says Maxine Terpin, the organizer of "Start-up Debut". "That all started right here in Las Vegas."
Now, other entrepreneurs, are hoping for that same kind of success.
"There's that spirit of creativity that's being fostered here, and that's what you need," Evans says.
Terpin says Las Vegas really is the perfect city to host CES, because there's a strong spirit of innovation. There is also a growing number of technology start-ups emerging throughout the valley.
