Drivers reminded to be cautious in school zones as classes resume
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Law enforcement agencies around the valley gathered Thursday, to remind drivers that school is back in session on Monday and kids will be out and about.
In 2012, there were 600 accidents involving vehicles and pedestrians in Metro's jurisdiction. More than 100 of those involved children, so officers want drivers to be more aware in school zones.
"Parents need to do a lot more this school year, in their own driving behaviors, the type of examples they set for their children, and the way they drive through school zones," says Sgt. Todd Raybuck of Metro.
"These kids are not always paying attention," added Lt. Darnell Couthen with the Clark County School District police. "If the drivers are distracted and the kids are not paying attention, that creates a major problem."
