Program underway for residents to recycle Christmas trees

CREATED Jan. 2, 2013

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- If you're still wondering what to do with your Christmas tree, you might want to consider recycling.

The UNLV Rebel Recycling Program is trying to make it easy for you.

They have almost two-dozen drop-off locations around the Valley.

"The trees get chipped into mulch. The mulch is used in our parks throughout the Valley and also in the composting process over at the Springs Preserve," said Tara Pike, UNLV Christmas tree recycling.

The drop-off is free.

If you want to recycle your tree, but can't haul it away yourself, call 1-800-GOT-JUNK and they'll pick it up for a fee.

This weekend, they're even giving out a gift or coupons at two locations.

One is the Galleria at Sunset from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The other is at Cardenas at Bonanza and Lamb from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
