Man facing arson charge in Vegas blaze identified
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A man facing a felony arson charge after a Christmas Eve blaze at a Las Vegas-area duplex has been identified as Kevin R. Schmidt Jr.
Records show Schmidt was being held Wednesday at the Clark County jail pending an initial court appearance Thursday on a first-degree arson charge.
County spokesman Erik Pappa says a motive for the fire remains under investigation.
Clark County firefighters said Schmidt was treated for minor injuries and arrested after the fire a little after 10 p.m. Monday at a building on Oak Valley Drive, near Rainbow Boulevard and Flamingo Road.
Firefighters doused flames in several places and reported that one duplex unit was damaged.
Fire investigators determined that no one was home at the time. Damage was estimated at about $50,000.
