North Las Vegas Fire Department delivers truck load of toys to local family

CREATED Dec. 24, 2012

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Right out of Fire Station 52 in North Las Vegas, it's lights, sirens and Santa waving out the window. The firefighters aren't going to a fire, but they're delivering some "emergency cheer" to the Mayhew family.

"We were able to deliver Santa and put some smiles on some children's faces," said Cedric Williams, spokesperson for North Las Vegas Fire Department.

That's a dozen smiling kids getting a truck full of toys. It's an early Christmas surprise for the family that just moved to the valley from St. Louis. Mom, Tiffany Mayhew, said she's out of work this holiday season.

"Right now, we're just trying to make it," Mayhew said. "We came here on a wing and a prayer."

Mayhew's children had no idea the fire department was on its way. Only when they heard the blaring sirens did they suspect something.

"I was like, I don't smell smoke," Mayhew said. "I saw the fire trucks coming around the corner and I thought they were going to that house over there."

The kids didn't waste any time ripping open presents and riding new bikes.

All in the spirit of giving this holiday season.
