NHP troopers hand out jackets and blankets to the homeless
Instead of handing out tickets, Nevada Highway Patrol troopers handed out blankets and jackets to the homeless at I-15 & D street on Wednesday. Dozens of homeless people showed up.
With temperatures that dropped below freezing in many parts of the valley, the gifts were deeply appreciated, but troopers say the real gift is their ability to give back to the community.
Trooper Jeremie Elliott said, "When they can take that blanket, and we see the smiles, and it brightens their holidays just that little bit more, it's all worth it for us."
Rick, one of the recepients said, "It's good.. you guys think of us enough to come out, because sometimes it's been some nights man, we need and nobody shows up."
Nevada Highway Patrol trooper paid for the jackets and blankets out of their own pockets.
