RTC will provide free rides for partiers on New Year's Eve

CREATED Dec. 13, 2012

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Locals heading downtown or to the Las Vegas Strip will be able to catch a free ride on New Year's Eve.

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) is offering free transit rides from 6 p.m. Dec. 31 to 9 a.m. on Jan. 1.

That includes direct transit service from the Centennial Hills and Summerlin areas to downtown Las Vegas.

The Centennial Hills park and ride center is located on Grand Montecito Parkway, near Durango Drive and Elkhorn Road.

The Summerlin (Westcliff) center is located at 25 S. Durango Drive, just south of Summerlin Parkway.

Express transit service from both park and rides leave approximately every 20 minutes between 5 p.m. Dec. 31 until 4 a.m. Jan. 1.

Buses will take riders to Neonopolis on Las Vegas Boulevard where they can transfer to the Deuce on the Strip if they wish to continue to the Las Vegas Strip.

The Deuce on the Strip double-deck service will operate on the Strip until it is closed to traffic.

At that time, the Deuce on the Strip service will operate from the Fremont Street Experience to Mandalay Bay at approximately a 20-minute frequency. Additionally, the Strip & Downtown Express (SDX) will operate from the Las Vegas Premium Outlets North to the South Strip Transfer Terminal primarily via Industrial Road/Dean Martin Drive at a 20-minute frequency until 2:30 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

Routes 201 (Tropicana Avenue), 202 (Flamingo Road), and 203 (Spring Mtn. Road / Desert Inn Road / Lamb Blvd) will provide the closest possible access to the Strip but will not stop on the Strip.

Many transit routes on and around the Las Vegas Strip will be detoured on New year's Eve due to anticipated street closures. For full details, visit www.rtcsnv.com.
