Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- It's supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, but in one Summerlin neighborhood, a Grinch has been snatching Christmas lights.
The thefts are happening near Hualapai and Sahara.
"I think it's crazy for someone to take Christmas lights," said Kelly Tate, whose Christmas lights were taken off his palm tree.
"It's Christmas! It's not the time of stealing, it's the time of giving!" said Tate.
Just a few streets away, Michelle Porter also noticed her Christmas lights were stolen.
"I came out, looked (and it was dark), I was feeling around the bushes and they were gone," said Porter.
She says the theft scared her because she has small children at home.
This is the time of year when there are a lot of "crimes of opportunity," a Metro police spokesperson tells Action News.
Police say the holidays can often be a time when packages are stolen from front porches, gifts are stolen from underneath trees, and purses can be snatched from holiday shoppers.
The best way to prevent these types of crimes, police say, is to be aware of your surroundings and report suspicious activity.
That's what residents of this Summerlin neighborhood plan to do, hoping no more of their decorations are stolen from their yards.
