Man gets 20 years for Reno-area robbery spree
RENO, Nev. (AP) -- A 24-year-old man blamed for robbing several Reno-area convenience stores around New Year's has been ordered to 20 years in federal prison.
Prosecutors say Randy Macario Ancheta was sentenced Monday, after pleading guilty in August to five counts of armed robbery and one count of using a firearm during a crime.
Authorities say the robberies happened while Ancheta was on parole after being convicted in 2008 of attempted lewdness with a child under 14.
Prosecutors say he worked with accomplice Cameron Muhlenberg to rob the convenience stores in Reno, Sparks and Carson City between Dec. 27, 2011, and Jan. 3, 2012. Authorities say the two swapped roles as robber and getaway driver.
Muhlenberg has pleaded guilty to similar charges and is set for sentencing Feb. 19.
