Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A Las Vegas police officer was involved in a crash following a highway pursuit of two vehicles this past weekend.

The drivers inside the vehicles were seen shooting at each other on Interstate 15 near the Sahara Avenue exit.

A call was received by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department a little before 7 p.m. Saturday that two vehicles had sideswiped each other and gunshots followed.

When police began to pursue the vehicles, one officer's squad car and another vehicle, a 1994 Jeep Cherokee, collided near Decatur Boulevard and Meadows Lane.

The officer was transported to University Medical Center Trauma with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Jeep suffered only minor injuries.

It is unknown what started the shooting in the first place. At least one suspect is still at large.

Action News will bring you more details on the situation as they become available.
