Santa Cops need help buying presents for local kids

CREATED Nov. 20, 2012

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Most of us are just starting to think about Christmas, but Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers think about it year round.  All year, they identify kids they are worried about. Kids who may be in tough situations. They take these kids Christmas shopping, making Las Vegas a better place to live.

It's just one of many programs funded by the Friends of LVMPD Foundation.  The foundation says they can't help all of the kids they'd like to without donations.

Denise Kee with the foundation says, "Officers are whole people. They are coaches, teachers, mentors, and the foundation gives them an outlet to connect with children."

The officers chip in their own money every year.  But Kee says, "We try to take 150 kids. We'll take as many as we can fund.  That's what it comes down to."
To help, you can either donate cash or buy a brick with your name engraved down at Metro's headquarters.  For more information, go to  Friends of LVMPD Foundation.
