Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The best of the best in traffic safety are in Las Vegas to attend the Nevada Safety Summit at Texas Station this week.
Attendees include representatives from local police agencies, the Department of Transportation and Nevada safety advocates.
Their focus this week is to come up with ways to reduce the number of traffic-related fatalities to zero.
Traffic fatalities is the number one killer around the country for people between the ages of 5 to 34 and the chief safety engineer for Nevada's DOT calls it an epidemic.
Erin Breen, director of University of Nevada, Las Vegas' Safe Community Partnership, is leading the work session on pedestrian safety at the summit.
Her suggestion this week will be to form a group to discuss what to do with the most dangerous areas of the valley.
The last time that public safety advocates held a meeting like this was 15 years ago.
