Coroner IDs knife-wielding man shot by police
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Authorities have identified a knife-wielding man who was shot and killed by officers after he allegedly grabbed a woman on a Las Vegas sidewalk.
The Clark County coroner's office says 39-year-old Daniel Taiwan Hathorne of Las Vegas died of multiple gunshot wounds after the Friday morning shooting on Cambridge Street, near Twain Avenue.
Police Officer Jose Hernandez said the Hathorne held two knives to the throat of the terrified woman before two officers shot him. He was pronounced dead at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center.
Hernandez says the woman wasn't injured, but was shaken by the incident several blocks east of the Las Vegas Strip.
Hernandez says an apartment manager told police the man was being evicted from a complex on Swenson Street when he threatened to take someone hostage.
