Las Vegas mother charged with murdering her child
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A local mother is charged in Clark County with murder, and child abuse & neglect with substantial bodily harm, following the death of her one-year-old child.
Etsegenet Welday has been charged in her son's death, which happened March 22, 2011.
According to the criminal complaint, the Las Vegas Fire Department received a 911 call stating the child was not breathing and the family was doing CPR.
The child was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Welday stated to police her son, Noah Behre, was vomiting all day, and she took him to UMC Quick Care but was told by a nurse Noah was fine, and sent her home. It was later discovered, there was no record of her being at the facility with Noah.
Welday said she took Noah home and tried to feed him, but he kept vomiting. She also told police she tried cooling him off by pouring water on him.
Police said Welday had a hard time explaining to them the timeline of what happened that day.
As the investigation continued, the reviewal of the 911 tapes revealed, approximately 40 seconds into Welday speaking with the 911 operator, she stated that her son was dead.
Approximately one minute into the 911 call, Welday told the operator her son had not been breathing for one hour.
Etsegenet is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center.
