Officers involved in shooting on Cambridge and Twain identified

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting in the 3800 block of Cambridge Street, near East Twain Avenue.

The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. Friday morning.

According to the LVMPD, a man had become agitated and threatened to take someone hostage if he was evicted from his apartment, Siegel Suites on Cambridge Street.

As police officers approached the man, he grabbed a nearby elderly woman, who was walking on Cambridge, and held two knives to her throat.

After the man refused to let the woman go, the police opened fire on the man. He was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The identity of the suspect has not been released.

The officers involved have been identified as Officers Russell Ellsworth and Brandon Oris.

Officer Ellsworth is 28-years-old and has been employed with the LVMPD since March 2008. Officer Oris is 29-years-old and has been employed with the LVMPD since August 2008.

The officers have been placed on routine paid administrative leave.
