Vegas `02 Christmas cocaine killer gets 19+ years

CREATED Nov. 1, 2012

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A 43-year-old Las Vegas man who admitted killing a woman in a dispute over drugs on Christmas Day 2002 has been sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison.

Corey Thompson pleaded guilty in July to federal charges of using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to drug-trafficking crimes resulting in death.

Federal prosecutors say the victim, Arlene McMillian, was selling crack cocaine on behalf of Thompson and others out of a room at the Moulin Rouge Apartments in downtown Las Vegas. They say the two got into an argument and Thompson shot her in the head execution style with a .25 caliber handgun.

U.S. District Judge Philip Pro sentenced Thompson in Las Vegas on Wednesday to a mandatory 19.5 years in prison followed by five years supervised released.
