CREATED Oct. 24, 2012

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) -- Nevada State College in Henderson is gearing up for a $61.5 million expansion that will more than triple the size of the young, public school's permanent campus.

College president Bart Patterson announced last week that two additional buildings with a total of 100,000 square feet of space are expected to open in fall 2015.

The only permanent structure currently on campus is a 42,000-square-foot liberal arts and sciences building. Another 75,000 square feet of office and classroom space is leased nearby in Henderson.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the plans call for a three-story, 60,000-square-foot building to house the schools of nursing and education. Another 40,000-square-foot building would house the student union and administrative offices.

Nevada State College opened in 2002 and now enrolls about 3,200 students.
