There are now more than 40 reasons to visit downtown Las Vegas in the form of special offers, incentives, tastings, events and activities on Saturday, Oct. 13 - REDISCOVER DOWNTOWN DAY. The day-long downtown celebration created for locals is organized by the Downtown Las Vegas Alliance (DLVA), a group of downtown business owners and stakeholders who believe in reclaiming downtown as the locals' center of culture, business and entertainment.
The day kicks off with the American Heart Association's Rediscover Downtown Heart Walk at Fremont Street Experience. Registration is $30 and more than 6,000 people (no fee to walk) are expected to join in the fun. After the Heart Walk, visit the Mob Museum, the Discovery Children's Museum or the Natural History Museum, where locals will enjoy one free admission with another paid admission. Head to the Arts District when you're ready to browse art and home accessories at a number of specialty boutiques. Or stop by Las Vegas Design Center at World Market Center Las Vegas for complimentary coffee, bagels and a guided walking tour of the region's premier design center that is open to the public.
Enjoy a free hot dog with Rick and Kelly at Rick's Restorations, or take Bar + Bistro's Chef Beni up on his offer: free flan cake for every table! Ready to party? Drinks are 2-for-1 at the El Cortez Hotel & Casino with special offers at other trendy downtown bars including Vanguard Lounge and The Lady Silvia. Nevada Ballet Theatre joins with two other major ballet companies, Ballet West and Pacific Northwest Ballet, to stage Balanchine's magnificent "Jewels" ballet at The Smith Center. Visit www.nevadaballet.org for tickets. Before the performance, visit Triple George Grill for a complimentary appetizer with the purchase of two entrees or experience the exclusive "Jewels" menu featuring a three course meal specifically created for the ballet. Stop by MOB BAR afterwards and try one of the specialty "Jewels" cocktails - the Ruby, Emerald and Diamond - and get your second one free. And finally, for some late night fun, visit Fremont Street Experience for free live music featuring a concert by Bret Michaels of Poison.
According to Rich Worthington, president and COO of The Molasky Group of Companies, who also serves as chairman of the board/president of DLVA, there are many local Las Vegans, who, for a variety of reasons, haven't ventured downtown for a long time. "Historically, downtown Las Vegas has not been a top destination for many locals," said Worthington. "But in recent years and especially this year - The Year of Downtown - that trend is reversing itself. Given all the recent openings and progress, there is much to explore and experience downtown. This is the perfect day to do that."
