Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Downtown Las Vegas got another boost Wednesday night with the grand opening of The D Las Vegas.
The hotel and casino, which used to be Fitzgerald's, has undergone $20 million in renovations.
The D Las Vegas offers a whole new modern experience featuring a revamped casino floor, 640 remodeled guest rooms, and high-tech displays on the outside.
But, there are still some intentional throwbacks like the rare, vintage slot machines and coin-operated games.
All the furnishings at the D are American made and most of them are manufactured in Las Vegas.
Chief Executive Officer Derek Stevens says the D represents his Detroit roots and it is also his nickname.
The property includes an American Coney Island restaurant, the first location of the famous chili dog restaurant to open outside of Michigan.
The D will also feature Detroit sports on the big screens that are centered above the longest bar in Nevada.
Stevens said that the D also stands for downtown Las Vegas, an area that has seen huge growth.
Mayor Carolyn Goodman was on hand for the grand opening ceremony last night. Her husband -- the former mayor Oscar Goodman -- also made an appearance accompanied by his usual showgirls and signature martini.
The D will be hosting several concerts and events over the next few weeks to celebrate its grand opening.
