Unique local T-shirt company hiring for the holidays
Henderson, NV (KTNV) -- The unemployment numbers for our state won't be released until the end of the month. And although the latest numbers show Nevada unemployment in the double digits, we're seeing slow job growth of our own.
Funky phrases and personalized prophecies, that's what SpreadShirt specializes in.
"They can make any shirt they want and put anything on it they want," said company spokeswoman, Laura Platt.
But the reason the company decided to set up a second manufacturing warehouse in Henderson is no laughing matter.
"We really felt that we could offer jobs to people and that there would be a really good employment pool for us," said Platt.
The unemployment rate in Las Vegas hovers just over 12 percent. But local economists say the new national unemployment numbers could be good news for Nevada as far as tourism and retail.
A better national outlook means company's like William Sonoma can hire 600 plus people for its call center in Summerlin. And SpreadShirt will hire 70, which they plan on retaining come springtime.
For new employees at SpreadShirt this opportunity couldn't have come at a better time.
"Honestly, I'd been looking for two years for regular work and I was blessed with this amazing job. It just blew me out of the water that this company came in here and just grabbed us," said Angelica Delgado.
And they'll be grabbing more. The company is projected to grow next year.
