Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- You know what makes Las Vegas a better place to live? Great people. And we found some great people whipping up some great toffee. Yes, you can buy it. Yes, you'll be hooked. But what hooked us on Whoa! Toffee is learning where it's being shipped and why it's being shipped there.
Suni Erlanger has a growing toffee business, a gold star in her window, and an original sketch of her son, Doug. But what she doesn't have is him.
Suni says, "We're going to make sure that every guy over there opens up a package of munchies because that's what I would've mailed to my son."
Suni has made toffee for 25 years but it wasn't until her son Doug died in Afghanistan last year that she decided to sell it. He was just 23-years-old and two weeks away from coming home from his second deployment.
Suni said, "He had all his hopes and dreams just taken from him. One second of RPG. And that's how he died."
But while he lived, he served our country well. And he loved his Mom and her toffee. He'd been pushing her to sell it for years. Losing Doug pushed her to pursue her passion. She teamed up with business partner Julie Littmann to launch the company and coordinate "Munchies for the Military".
Julie said, "Come and help package munchies or bring munchies. But we are going to provide the toffee to put in every single box."
A taste of home just the way Specialist Douglas Green would've liked it.
