Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A man is dead and a woman hospitalized after a multi-car fatal accident on the northbound 215 near Sahara.
The accident occurred shortly before 7:00 p.m. Friday when a Chevy Tahoe slammed into the back of a Mini Cooper, according to NHP.
Officials say that traffic in the right hand lane was slowed due to an event at the Red Rock Hotel and Casino at the time of the accident.
Police say the driver of the Chevy Tahoe, Thomas Rossangel, 49, of Las Vegas was driving at a high rate of speed as he approached traffic. The accident caused a chain reaction in which a total of at least five cars were hit.
The driver of the Tahoe fled the scene of the accident and was being sought by NHP. Police say the 50-year-old turned himself in early Saturday morning.
The driver of Mini Cooper was transported to UMC Trauma where he was pronounced deceased.
One woman, the passenger in the Mini Cooper, was transported to UMC and with critical injuries. Another man in a Honda Civic was treated and released.
NHP is investigating the fatal accident for a cause.
